Have you ever noticed that a perfume is like a very delicate flower? If you don’t take good care of it, it can lose its scent or even start to smell bad. That’s why at Zimaxx we want your favorite perfumes to last a long time.
Here are the 10 most common mistakes you should avoid:
1. Storing it in the bathroom
This is mistake number one. Bathrooms have a lot of humidity, and the air heats up when you shower. Heat and moisture “damage” the perfume, causing it to lose quality very quickly.
Do this instead: Store it in a dry place, like your closet or a drawer.
2. Leaving it in direct sunlight
Perfumes don’t like sunlight. Sunlight acts like a tiny oven that heats the perfume’s ingredients. If you leave it near a window, the liquid can change color and scent.
3. Don’t rub your wrists!
Almost everyone does this: spraying perfume on one wrist and rubbing it against the other. Don’t do it! Rubbing warms the perfume and “crushes” its scent.
Tip: Just apply it and let it dry naturally.
4. Shaking the bottle like you’re about to drink juice
Perfume is not orange juice. Shaking it lets air in and creates bubbles, which is not good. Perfume should always stay calm and still inside its bottle.
5. Leaving it uncapped
If you leave the bottle open, the scent escapes (evaporates) and air gets inside. It’s like leaving a soda open—eventually it loses all its strength. Always keep the cap on!
6. Storing it in hot places
Never leave your perfume inside the car or near the kitchen. Heat causes the perfume oils to “age” very quickly.
7. Applying it on dirty skin
Perfume smells much better on clean skin. If you apply it after sweating, the smell of sweat mixes with the perfume, and the result is not pleasant at all.
8. Keeping it for “many, many” years
Perfumes are not eternal. Even a very high-quality perfume (like the ones we sell at Zimaxx) is best enjoyed rather than stored unused for years. If you keep it for ten years, it probably won’t smell the same as it did at the beginning.
9. Applying it only on clothes
Perfume is designed to react with the warmth of your skin. If you only spray it on your shirt, it won’t develop properly—and you might stain your favorite clothes.
Where to apply it: On the neck and wrists.
10. Buying non-original perfumes
This is the worst mistake. Fake perfumes use very cheap ingredients that deteriorate quickly and, in some cases, can cause allergies. An original perfume always smells better and is kinder to your skin.
